Tenants Guide to Renting

Property Search

The more specific you can be about your requirements the easier it will be to match you to your next property.

The type of points you might want to consider, depending on your situation, are areas, schools, transport links, parking etc.

As renting quite often is an immediate requirement where a tenant needs to find a property in a few weeks, trying to find your ideal home is not always that easy and therefore, you may need to be flexible in terms of trying to tick every box and consider what are the most important points and working around those.

Consider Your Costs

There are a number of costs to be taken into consideration when renting a property and it is imperative that you take these into account when deciding the amount of rent you can afford to pay before you begin viewings. Typically these will include:

  • Damage deposit: Normally a five-week deposit is required before you take occupation to cover any damages that may happen during the tenancy.
  • Council Tax
  • Utilities: Gas, electric, phone and water
  • Your home contents insurance
